Marcus Simmonds is the Chief Executive Officer for Tortuga International Holdings, Ltd. Born in Kingston Jamaica, Marcus is a 1994 graduate of Howard University in Washington DC. He worked at Price Waterhouse LLP from 1994 to 1996 and was a financial analyst with Ryder Systems Miami, Florida. In 1997, he and his wife, Monique Hamaty-Simmonds, now the Chief Marketing Officer for Tortuga International, opened Tortuga Imports, Inc. Her family had started the Tortuga Rum Company in Grand Cayman, B.W.I. in 1984 and later introduced the “Tortuga Rum Cake” baked from a generations’ old family recipe. The young couple launched their Miami business to bring Tortuga’s “authentic taste of the Islands” to the American market.

Monique Hamaty-Simmonds is the Chief Marketing Officer for Tortuga International Holdings, Ltd. The company is the worldwide owner of the TORTUGA brand of rum, rum cakes and other gourmet Caribbean products. Born in Kingston Jamaica, Monique came to the United States in 1980 as a young girl.  She is a 1996 graduate of Florida International University in Business Administration and a second generation entrepreneur. 

In 2002, Marcus and Monique were recognized by Gourmet News with the prestigious, biennial “20 Under 40 Award”. Other accolades for the Tortuga Rum Cake Company include being named to the Top 100 Diversity-Owned Businesses in Florida by, the nations’ leading multicultural internet site; and recognized by Inc. magazine as one of the Top 5000 fastest-growing private US companies for four consecutive years. In 2012, the couple was honored by ICABA in their salute to South Florida's 100 Most Accomplished Caribbean Americans.
